🇺🇦 🇷🇺 Why has Ukraine's Orthodox church split from Russia? l Inside Story

The eastern Orthodox church has over 250 million members around the world.
Its spiritual leader is based in Istanbul.
But for followers in Ukraine, there’s a new found independence.
Churches there have officially cut ties with their Russian branch – accusing it of what they call ‘pro-Moscow propaganda’.
The decision has angered Russian leaders, with Moscow warning of what it calls dire consequences.

So, was this a politically motivated decision?

  1. Від Росії треба бути на відстані,це Слава Богу зрозумів весь цевілізований світ.

  2. state should not politicise religion.

  3. As I understand, all of the Orthodox patriarchs must agree to set up an autonomous church, not just one. I think that the Ukrainian church should be autonomous, but it needs to be done in the proper way, not thru political persuasion.

  4. FYI, to refute your RUSSIAN AGENT Guest @Valentin Yakushik (Devotee of Putin & the Russian Patriarchate) from Kyiv-Mohila Academy, NO! Ukrainian Church independence is NOT simply a geopolitical issue (BUT of course his masters in the Kremlin view it precisely as purely geopolitical)! For the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, it is primarily a PASTORAL issue. How to bring back millions of Ukrainian Orthodox Christians into the fold of the canonical Orthodox Church. Also, how to give pastoral solution to millions of Ukrainian Orthodox who refused & stopped going to the Russian Church in Ukraine (whose Church is actively sympathetic to the Russian state) after the Russian annexation of Crimea & invasion of the Donbas in 2014. Millions of Ukrainians stopped going to the Russian Church… some went to the Greek Catholic Church, many many more went to the non-canonical Orthodox groups, and many more simply stopped going to Church altogether!

  5. The Harlot called Babylon the Great (world religion) in the book of Revelation rides the back of the Beast (world governments), yielding much influence over world rulers and the masses of people. But the beast is about to turn on the harlot, destroying religion (Rev 14:8 and 18:2). She is spoken of as being "drunk with the wine of her fornication," or "spiritual adultery" by her involvement in political affairs. One identifying scripture is Rev 18:23, "No light of a lamp will ever shine in you again, and no voice of a BRIDEGROOM AND OF A BRIDE will ever be heard in you again; for your merchants were the top-ranking men of the earth, and by your spiritistic practices all the nations were misled." We can see the gradual banning of religion in certain countries, most recently Russia, and the attitudes of people today toward religion has become negative and sarcastic, especially in younger generations.

  6. Orthodox laity generally ignore the megalomania of the Orthodox clergy….

  7. I wonder how much money good old Bart got from the US CIA to cause such a schism? Good old bart is a
    discrace to Orthodoxy!

  8. There is a big deal of property division right now currently owned by the Russia Patriarchate. 11 monasteries each at $50,000,000 so a lot of money to be made. Poroshenko is taking the first share. And fools like those in the video jump high and yell "Slava Ukraine"…

  9. Judaism, Christianity and Islam have similar rules to organize our life and prevent corruption and morality decline. But we don't care about religion and we use religion for political agenda. We are doomed people.

  10. The Sultanate, the Khalifate, the haham basi are gone, what is the Ochemenical Patriarchete still doing there?!. in Istanbul Turkey.

  11. Thanks everyone for pointing out the typo. We apologize for the mistake and fixed it!

  12. Not sure if this will be worth my time. Will it be unbiased….no. Probably just another world wide pedophilia ring protecting and shuffling abusers, disguised as enlightenment and spirituality.

  13. Russian church is fully controlled by FSB.

  14. Oh man, I thought this was about cosplay. Wait, it is!

  16. They are building a foundation for a new conflict; anyway, Vatican and Mecca must be happy now, Orthodox church is weakening

  17. Please correct the title 'Ulraine'

  18. Time for the movement to join the Ukrainian Catholic church
