What did your Wednesday night look like? There was a handful of parties in London last night, from the opening of The Standard to the private view of Lenny Kravitz’s Assemblage exhibition in collaboration with Dom Pérignon. It was Alexa Chung, however, who played the trump card. For an evening to promote Bird in Hand wine, she donned her best Erdem and invited her inner circle of friends, including Pixie Geldof, Joséphine de la Baume and Daisy Lowe, to dine with her at Harry’s Bar. After dessert, Primal Scream hit the decks.
The evening of sampling the grapes from the Adelaide Hills wine region follows Chung’s pub quiz in celebration of her Barbour collaboration. Again, the summer party ended with a crowded makeshift dancefloor in Islington’s The Albion, as the designer mixed all the ingredients of a great night into one fabulous cocktail.
Last night in Marylebone, the dress code was ballgowns over Barbours, however. Rather than dipping into her own collections, Chung looked to her friend Erdem Moralioglu for a whimsical design befitting the ornate décor in the private dining room. The strapless dress with deconstructed sweetheart neckline and structured ruffle around the waist was from the autumn/winter 2019 collection inspired by Princess Donna Orietta Doria-Pamphilj-Landi. The Italian royal famously tore the paintings off the walls of her palazzo and wore them as kilts, and sewed her jewels into her clothes, before she fled a Mussolini-led Rome for London. This decadent slice of history chimed with Harry’s – an iconic Italian institution in London. But really, Chung’s dress just looked fabulous.
