Tell us about your (incredible) brows?
I see Kristie Streicher from the Streicher sisters’ salon Striiike which is super popular in LA and I’ve had micro feathering. I kind of had good brows but when I first saw her she told me not to touch them for a year and then to come in. I’ve been going there for almost two years now. They are now fuller and she had a whole plan for them with growth serum and various other things. I go back every six months and she’ll tweak, but they just grow in this shape now as she’s trained them to grow in that way. I plucked them too much when I was 15 – like everybody did – but luckily they grew back.
Where do you find out about new beauty products and treatments?
Most of the time on Instagram. For example my friend Kate Bosworth posted something and her skin just looked flawless so I messaged her and said, “what is this Kate?” She said it was Suqqu’s Extra Rich Glow Cream Foundation and that I could get it in Selfridges. So the first thing I did when I arrived in London was to go to Selfridges to buy it and I texted her to say thank you straight away. I love beauty so if I see someone in the store I’ll go up to them and ask them about what it is they’re wearing. I love discovering the little secrets – you know everyone wants a natural glow, right?
Where do you go for treatments in LA?
The truth is, I work all the time so I don’t have time! And when I’m not working, I’m at home with the kids. I did have a facial a few weeks ago and that was the first time in two years… I should start doing that but to be honest I’m really good at home. I make sure I wash off my make-up before bedtime and put on all the eye creams and serums. I have really good products so I’m good at taking care of my skin. I also love sheet masks and peel-off masks. I love Verso, which is a Swedish brand, for their sheet masks and they have some really good products with retinol in them. They make my skin peel a little but it feels nice. La Mer make good products, too. I’m so lucky as brands send me products to try but I’m also scared to try something new if I’ve found something I like.
Talk us through your typical morning skincare routine?
I start by exfoliating with a Dermalogica cleanser and then follow with the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. I use it a couple of times a week to maintain my skin. My sister had a bit of acne and she used it and it cleared it up. I then put on the La Mer Moisturizing Cream. I finish with an eye cream, the Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8, and lip balm – both by Verso.
Who does your hair and what products do you like to use?
I go to Lisa Satorn who is at Salon Nine Zero One. She’s amazing and she’s been doing it for a couple of years now – she’s great at cut and colour. I have it kind of natural, which is good if I don’t get to see her all the time, and she makes it a little bit blonder on the ends. She’ll also come to my house if I don’t have the time. I hate other people curling my hair unless it’s her. If I go to a photoshoot and they have hair and make-up I don’t feel like myself as I know what to do. It takes me about 10 minutes to do it. I don’t use anything fancy, I just bought the curling tong from CVS. The trick is always to curl hair away from you, but you don’t want it too perfect. I love to use Drybar products, Ouai and Blowpro Faux Dry which is a dry shampoo.
Do you have a favourite fragrance?
Savage Rose – I launched this fragrance in 2016 and it’s a scent inspired by my grandmother’s rose gardens.
Your nails always look immaculate. Do you have a manicurist you always go to?
I’m obsessed with nails. I do them myself because I’m so picky. When I go to a salon and they don’t go all the way round to the edge, there’s nothing worse and I panic inside. If there’s a little line of white around the edge then I go home and take it off straight away and I do it myself. I do my nails every four days because they need to be flawless. It’s one thing I’m obsessed with. I have about 20 different shades of this wine colour, from deeper to lighter. At the moment I love OPI’s Malaga Wine. I’m not good with nudes, so either red or black, short and square and always glossy. I do go to Bellacures in LA and they often get it right.
Tell us about your make-up
On the weekends I don’t always put make-up on. If I go to the office I’ll wear tinted moisturiser, Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonder Youth Boosting Perfecting Skin Foundation or Chanel’s Soleil Tan De Chanel Sheer Illuminating Fluid, then La Prairie Radiance Cellular Cream Blush in Rose Glow and Shiseido’s Perfecting Stick Concealer to fix any imperfections. Then a bit of mascara and maybe a bit of eyeshadow in a natural colour. I finish with Bare Minerals Powder Highlighter on my cheekbones. And then in the evening, I don’t do much more but maybe more blush and some black around the eyes. My favourite eye kohls are Bobbi Brown. I never do a red lip – I feel so uncomfortable.
How do you cope with jet lag?
I brought melatonin on this trip because it’s a game changer. I had the best night’s sleep and woke up and felt totally fine. I drank loads of water and I’ve taken a break from alcohol – I haven’t had alcohol in four months and it’s actually helped me. I’m a sugar addict but lately I’m trying to stay away because the better you eat the better you feel. I’m a snack queen so I’ve substituted the sugar for nuts and dried fruit and I still have a little bit of chocolate.
Did you notice your skin change when you were pregnant with your children?
Nothing crazy happened – if anything I got a good glow – but then afterwards I lost a lot of hair. You want to do more natural skincare so I discovered Weleda and they had good oils to take care of stretch marks and body lotions. I love rose and they have some really good rose creams.
How about exercise and wellness?
I just started! I hadn’t done anything in eight years and I felt like I was working so hard I was burning out and I needed to take care of myself so that’s when I stopped with the alcohol. I then started working out about a month ago – I started taking a yoga class once a week at a studio close to my house called YogaWorks and then I started doing this class called LEKfit where you lift small weights and jump on a mini trampoline. I love yoga because mentally it’s so hard and it’s also good to put away the phone for an hour and a half and switch off.
