Ariana Grande just won her first-ever Grammy while wearing a custom Zac Posen gown…and she’s not even at the Grammys.
After a public spat with Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich, Grande cancelled her performance and decided not to attend the Grammys. But the last-minute decision means that Grande had a dress already made, and she decided to wear it on her own personal/virtual red carpet, her 144 million-strong Instagram feed.
“When @zacposen makes [you] a custom gown it doesn’t matter if you’re singing or not,” she captioned a photo of her in the gown. The strapless, baby blue number is a clear reference to Cinderella — which makes sense, since Grande and her two chart-topping albums are currently living out a fairy tale. Grande seems to be having a blast wearing the gown around at home. Who says you need a prince or a Grammys performance to get dressed up for?
As of press time, Grande has posted no less than five Instagram videos and photos of herself laying, strutting, and posing in the gown. Even her dog is getting in on the photoshoot. Another pro in the “staying home” column: You can’t bring a dog on the Grammys red carpet.
In true “7 Rings” fashion, Grande managed to have her cake and eating it too. She got to stay home for the evening, but she still won the award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener. She acknowledged the win via Instagram with a well-deserved four-letter word. She wrote of the win, “I know I’m not there tonight (trust, I tried and still truly wished it had worked out tbh) and I know I said I try not to put too much weight into these things …. but f**k ……. this is wild and beautiful.”
