It’s already been a big night at the 2019 Grammys for Lady Gaga. Though she was concerned about her ability to show up wearing full makeup for the night due to heightened emotions (we’ve all been there), it appears she’s managed to pull together quite a look. Gaga walked the red carpet in a stunning asymmetrical silver Celine gown with her blonde hair parted down the middle in loose waves and a smoky eye. Her look isn’t what’s getting the most buzz, though, at the moment — it’s what she said on stage to accept an award.
While accepting a Grammy for the song Shallow from A Star Is Born, Gaga took a moment to address the mental health themes of the film, and said, “I’m so proud to be a part of a movie that addresses mental health issues. They’re so important. And a lot of artists deal with that, and we’ve got to take care of each other.”
Many in the crowd found resonance in her words, and the cameras panned over people nodding in agreement. However, she wasn’t done, and continued, saying, “So if you see somebody that’s hurting don’t look away. And if you’re hurting, even though it might be hard, try to find that bravery within yourself to dive deep and go tell somebody and take them up in your head with you.”
Plenty of folks on social media agreed with her speech as well and were glad she used her platform to address such an important issue. This was Gaga’s third Grammy win of the night, and we’re just getting started. We’ll see what the rest of the night has in store, but if there are more thoughtful speeches like this, it’s going to be a good night.
