Even though she’s just 21 years old, model Halima Aden has already spent years making space for Muslim women in the fashion industry. She was the first model to wear Nike’s Pro sports hijab, and just last month, she stole Christian Cowan’s NYFW runway show with a badass chainlink hijab. With multiple covers (including Allure) and dozens of runway shows under her belt, Aden is now taking the fashion reins with her very own collection of headscarves.
As Vogue Arabia reports, Aden will collaborate with Modansia, a Turkish modest-wear online platform. Aden reportedly worked with Modansia to design a collection of 27 headscarves, dropping on the very fitting occasion of Istanbul Modest Fashion Week.
It’s no surprise that Aden is going from a model to a multi-hyphenate. As she explained to Paper last month, “I’m focused on the next generation. I want to one day see a hijabi at the Met Gala. I want to see a hijabi being a lead actress. Think of all the many firsts that are still out there. What can I do to encourage girls to dream big, to bring it home?”
Cheers to Aden for using her own success to inspire others…and, we predict, designing a beautiful collection. Keep watch for this groundbreaking collab, dropping at Fashion Week on April 20.
