By Keira Nothaft, The Arizona Republic
The kicker at Marcos de Nizo High School in Tempe, Ariz., is a standout star on the varsity team, kicking for 67 points last season – with a 92 percent accuracy rate.
She also happens to be a girl.
Success didn’t come easy for Krysten Muir, 17, and neither did respect. In addition to the normal pressures of training hard and keeping her head in the game, Muir endures the extra scrutiny that comes with being different.
“A lot of people at school are like, ‘You’re the kicker?’ … ‘She’s only out here because her dad’s out here,’” Muir said of the criticism she faced from her fellow classmates.

My school has a few girls on the football team.
Till she dies from getting hit
Keep going, young lady, you can do anything you WANT to do, question is, are you willing to get it done?
much respect ✊🏻 girls can do anything if they put their mind to it…. keep it u 👍🏻😏
My name is Jenna I play football all the guys build me up and encourage me I have never been made fun of I play corner
My teams kicker is a girl, and no one at my school cares. We don't find it strange, and really, no one should. Now if there was a girl playing in the offense or defense, I'd have a problem. The minute that girl got hit, the guy who made the hit would be seen as the devil himself
She’s ligitness
Bro no need to be sexist about it we get ur a girl no need to hate on the guys.
ive known a female kicker but ive known a few female highschool quarterbacks so kudos to yall!
there’s a girl on our varsity football team as well (she’s not a kicker) , girl power babyyyy
She has my favorite number and I also want to be a girl kicker for our team. But I haven’t even kicked a field goal in my life so…
Great ! If she is good enough… why not. Good on her. I just don't get that a person comes on, kicks an American Football then walks off the pitch taking no real part in the game … ? …………… Only in America.
I play football and I'm a girl but 5 of my teamates tell me that i didn't deserve to be a captain. But all my other teamates told me that I had it and i did
This is just glossing over the fact that schools do have girls on there team not just this one in particular
Our school had a girl, who didn’t kick, she was like a lineman
It’s a 68 yarder, not a 48 yarder
Tbh I wanna see her be a wide receiver
I am a girl running back for my school
Our kicker on our varsity football team is a girl too.
There’s a lot of kicker girls actually
