It’s impossible for Irina Shayk to take a bad picture; the model’s lithe figure and defined dimples are endlessly photogenic. Add to that her signature statement looks – created with celebrity stylist Jennifer Mazur – and you’ve got a masterclass in red carpet style. Shayk rarely puts a foot wrong.
The Russian supermodel, born Irina Valeryevna Shaykhlislamova, gained international recognition when she became the face of Intimissimi lingerie in 2007. She appeared in Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit issue later that same year (she also became the first Russian model to grace its cover in 2011), and went on to feature in Armani Exchange’s spring/summer 2010 campaign.
Since, Shayk has landed campaigns for Givenchy, Balmain, La Perla, Roberto Cavalli, Lacoste and Guess, and walked for Miu Miu, Givenchy, Bottega Veneta, Moschino and Versace, to name a few. And in 2016, then a newly anointed Victoria’s Secret Angel, she famously made her runway debut for the lingerie brand while pregnant with her and boyfriend Bradley Cooper’s first child, Lea de Seine.
Given the calibre of brands she’s worked with, it’s no surprise that Shayk turns to similarly big names to dress her for the red carpet. A close relationship with Donatella Versace has seen the designer become the model’s go-to for high-impact figure-hugging dresses, including the gold showstopper – complete with thigh split and ruffled train – she wore to the 2018 Met Gala. And for her first red carpet appearance since giving birth, at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, the model was stunning in a sheer black custom-made Balmain dress typical of Olivier Rousteing’s signature form-fitting style.
