If anything has come out of the 2019 award season, it’s that we’re finally making strides in removing gender stereotypes when it comes to style — at least at major award shows. At the 2019 Oscars, Amy Poehler, Elsie Fisher, Awkwafina, and many more women rocked killer pantsuits. Then there was Pose‘s Billy Porter, who broke the Internet in a Christian Siriano tuxedo gown, posting on Instagram: “When you come to the Oscars, you must dress up.” Celebrities are really feeling more and more confident proving there really are no rules. And you can add Game of Thrones and Aquaman star Jason Momoa to that list.
Momoa hit the red carpet with wife Lisa Bonet wearing matching mauve pink looks designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld. “We have the honor of wearing Karl Lagerfeld,” Bonet said on the ABC red carpet. “He designed Jason’s tux personally for him, and this is from his last couture collection from Fendi.”
While their fashion looks are some of the best of the night, the Internet quickly noticed the scrunchie on Momoa’s wrist, which perfectly matched his velvet tuxedo. It was also on full display when he was presenting the award for Best Foreign Language film as well. With all that hair, of course, he’d need to pull it back throughout the night. The idea of Uncle Karl designing a scrunchie to go with his tux is pretty incredible. (It’s very possible Lagerfeld only designed the tux and Fendi added the accessory, though.)
We extremely stan and feel all kinds of ahem, things about that scrunchie.
