As a non-parent, I have a vivid image of what my kid’s first haircut might look like. Pop culture has led me to believe it involves a screaming child strapped into a barber’s chair shaped like a rocket ship, while a safety-scissors-wielding stylist valiantly attempts to calm them. Needless to say, that cliché image is not how mother-of-three Kourtney Kardashian operates.
On Monday, she shared a photo of daughter Penelope’s first haircut to Instagram. But unlike the howling toddler in my imagination, Penelope is a full-on elementary school-age six-year-old. “First ever hair cut in all of her enchanting six years,” Kardashian wrote. She included photos of Penelope half-smiling and throwing up a peace sign for the camera.
Penelope showed off her new shoulder-length hair with fringed layering at the ends and a hint of bangs. It was styled with a messy center part. As one commenter put it, “She is six and is way more chic than I will ever be.” Same.
While fans are complimenting P’s haircut in the comments section this time around, Kardashian stans have turned on Kourtney for her parenting hair-care decisions in the past. Back in November, concerned trolls commented that 4-year-old Reign’s hair, which falls past his shoulders, was too long. Insert huge eye roll here.
The good news is, no matter how Kourtney allows her kids to style their hair, they always look super adorable.
