Singapore Airlines has opened a digital innovation hub called Krislab, where it says its staff will develop new ideas in collaboration with outside partners, start-ups, incubators and accelerators.
The carrier said its aim was for SIA Group to “fully embrace digitalisation and technology in all aspects of its business operations.”
Krislab staff will explore projects around artificial intelligence, virtual reality, data analytics, blockchain and more.
It is intended to give the airline a boost in areas such as revenue management, smart seats, virtual training, and predictive maintenance for aircraft.
Last year Singapore launched a blockchain-based digital wallet called Krispay for its Krisflyer frequent-flyer members and it has previously stated its ambition to be the “world’s leading digital airline.”
Krislab partners include Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research, and the National University of Singapore.
Singapore also said it would offer a training programme open to all employees that would “nurture digital mindsets” and teach new skills.
“The launch of Krislab is a significant step forward in our digital transformation journey and encapsulates our ambition to be the leading digital airline in the world,” said Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong.
“We are fully committed to further enhancing our digital capabilities by providing the right tools and infrastructure for staff to develop their ideas, as well as collaborating with external partners and start-ups to help solve business challenges.”
