Smack in the middle of a pop-up fashion week during which sartorial heavy-hitters such as Alexander Wang and Chanel are debuting their pre-Fall collections, Donatella Versace pulled out all – and we mean *all* – of the stops at the American Stock Exchange during the brand’s runway show tonight.
With a star-studded front row that included Mary J Blige, Blake Lively, Bradley Cooper, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Tracee Ellis Ross, Lupita N’Yongo, Paris Jackson, 2Chainz, Ciara, Uma Thurman (the list goes on – and on), the flashy Italian brand put on a stylish spectacular with heavy references to the storied house’s greatest hits.
Kaia Gerber walked the runway. So did Binx Walton! Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski and Hailey Bieber (recently formerly Baldwin) peacocked down the square-shaped runway, too.
But in a true throwback moment, models decked out in updated versions of the safety-pin dress – originally worn by Elizabeth Hurley at the premiere
of “Four Weddings And A Funeral” in 1994 – reinforced Versace’s sexy brand reboot for 2019.
So did OG supermodel Amber Valetta closing the show in a flowy, heart-printed gown – its sheer silhouette and deep v-neck was a direct homage to the famous green dress Jennifer Lopez famously wore to the 2000 Grammys. Ironically – but appropriately – originally worn by Valetta herself when she walked the Versace runway in 2000.
