Two of my favorite things — model-y cheekbones and boozy blended drinks — have finally come together in one awesome beauty product. It’s a bronzer/contouring powder with a spot-on piña colada scent called Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer, so delightful we named it a 2019 Allure Best of Beauty winner.
It’s not a full-on Tom Cruise–Cocktail beach party on your face (and I’m not even sure that would be so bad). But the tropical scent is just strong enough that you notice it when you brush the powder on, and then it goes away in a sec.
It’s the second campily scented beauty product that we’ve seen lately, the first being the Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Eyeshadow Collection that smells like — you guessed it — peanut butter and jelly (I’m not even making that up). And you know what? Say what you will. The same part of me that loved scratch-and-sniff banana-split stickers in fifth grade is really into this new wave of nostalgic scented beauty products.
It helps (a lot) that the Physicians Formula bronzer also works really well. (And the company knows its bronzers: One Physicians Formula bronzer sells every 15 seconds in the U.S.) The new, piña colada one comes in eight shades (from Light Bronzer to a deep, gorgeous shade called Brazilian Glow) that are soft, matte, and perfect for subtle contouring on fair to dark skin.
They’re laced with butters (murumuru, cupuaçu, and tucuma) that do two things other than sound exotic and cool: They make the powder feel really soft, and they create a pretty, dewy glow — kind of like you just drank a piña colada mixed by Brian Flanagan (a.k.a. the world’s cutest bartender) on a beach. Also, you have perfect cheekbones in this scenario. Hey, a girl can dream.
