Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in OG — Review and Swatches

TL;DR:

A long-lasting liquid lipstick with a matte finish in a muted lilac color.

If your lipstick collection is full of darks, brights, and work-friendly neutrals — colors like classic reds, rich plums, and spicy browns — then you’re not alone. That is exactly what my makeup bag looked like until I was tasked with testing the Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in OG, which is featured in Allure’s March Beauty Box. The cool-tone dusty lilac happens to be the brand’s best-selling shade, so I was happy to give it a try and discover why.

The Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in OG is an opaque, lilac-greige that my left lips feeling super soft. The formula dries very quickly and feels so lightweight that I pretty much forgot I was wearing it.

This shade is really made with fair and light skin tones in mind. On me (my complexion is light with cool undertones) the Lip Paint in OG looks light purple-ish gray. On someone with a medium or darker skin tone, however, this shade is going to dry down and look quite chalky. So if you have a darker complexion, I would urge you to try a cool chocolate brown with gray undertones like NYX Matte Lipstick in Maison. I guarantee there will not be a pasty cast your lips.

Here’s my lilac monochromatic look.

I was so inspired by the unique hue that I decided to create the monochromatic look you see above — trying (and ultimately succeeding) to stay within the same color family. Here’s how this dreamy matchy-matchy look came to life: I started by lightly dabbing the Glossier Lidstar in Fawn onto my lids and at the inner corners of my eyes. It’s a sheer, smoky gray with violet and gold shimmer flecks that added just the right amount of twinkling color to my lids. For a holographic flush, I highlighted my cheekbones and temples with Fenty’s Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter Duo in 7daywknd and Poolside. By layering these two violet hues, I got a gorgeous hyper-metallic finish. I then completed the look with my new favorite hue and formula, the Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in OG. This lip color really inspired to step out of my makeup comfort zone. And for that, I am thankful (and now somewhat iridescent)!
