The Bernification Of America

People aren’t feeling the status quo. John Iadarola, Mark Thompson, and Alonzo Bodden, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://www.tytnetwork.com/join

“Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will announce a plan for the federal government to guarantee a job paying $15 an hour and health-care benefits to every American worker “who wants or needs one,” embracing the kind of large-scale government works project that Democrats have shied away from in recent decades.

Sanders’s jobs guarantee would fund hundreds of projects throughout the United States aimed at addressing priorities such as infrastructure, care giving, the environment, education and other goals. Under the job guarantee, every American would be entitled to a job under one of these projects or receive job training to be able to do so, according to an early draft of the proposal.

A representative from Sanders’s office said they had not yet done a cost estimate for the plan or decided how it would be funded, saying they were still crafting the proposal.”*

  1. It's TRUE. Many Texans who really didnt know about Bernie when he ran in the primaries here… but after the primaries they learned about him more and every one I talked to would have voted for him over Trump. But we got Hillary. And Texans will not vote for her in a majority

    TRUMP is KING 👑👑👑

  3. Raise wages start with the minimum, this will increase tax revenue without touching tax rates. A small move, not enough in itself. While they whine that wealth redistribution is evil, the rich have been redistributing Americas wealth to their own pocketbooks – monumentally hypocritical. So tax them, paybacks a b*****.

  4. Please stop saying "the people" voted for trump. He lost badly but was appointed by the electoral college despite that. That should be mentioned every time his 'victory' comes up.

  6. The best countries to live in. What do they have in common? They are functioning democracy. So the answer is as simple as that. BETTER DEMOCRATY.

  7. Hillary the Democrat queen , layed the golden weiner to Ol Bernie .

  8. Ignore the filth rich teat-sucking trolls. Go progressive and stick with Bernie Sanders & Friends at Election 2020

  9. 50 Million Union Members, Brothers and Sisters, Friends will abandon Trump for Bernie Sanders.

  10. I’m with Alonzo on his cautious pessimism, I too believe that the democrats will continue to rig the system in favor of the status quo, the right will spin the message into something “ugly and Un American” , the people will become demoralized and I predict the 2018 blue wave with be an impotent splash, where the democrats will win only 10 seats in the house at best. Therefore we’ll never keep Trump in check. The republic is finished.

  11. "White people don't know what it's like to be poor"- Bernie Sanders, Reverse Racist Commie.

  12. Socialism isn't cool in 2018.

  13. THE JEWIFICATION of americuh

  14. The pessimism is not unwarranted here. There is a huge disconnect between what the people want, and what the people they elect do. It has existed like this for a long time and there are many reasons for it. The solution remains the same though – get money out of politics, and/or have people become more politically aware so that they won't vote for the same people who are not representing them.

  15. Without price controls essentially doubling the minimum wage isn't going to do anything. Prices will simply rise to reflect the change. If we're to have a federally mandated minimum wage then it needs to be directly tied to the cost of living on a state by state basis, since 15 bucks buys a different amount of stuff in California than it does in say, West Virginia. I highly doubt the idea would ever gain any traction, the right would oppose it for the usual reasons and the left would oppose it since they could no longer make political hay from raising the minimum wage.

  16. Wow, is Bernie Sanders still alive ? Who knew ?

  17. A tax steal! Very funny how TYT is so concerned over people rescuing their money from President Trump.

Also, local/state taxes pay for school, not federal taxes.

  18. The guy in the middle is clueless.

  19. Re: taxes and people not willing to pay them / pay more. You need more data to tease the meaning apart here. Many are not opposed, conceptually, to taxes, but feel that there is already enough being paid and the "crooked politicians" are misappropriating this money. Look at the $80B no-questions-asked increase in military spending. Fewer still will realize that, systemically, public money is being funneled into the hands of the wealthy. While others will say to the poor. And others are just opposed to paying taxes.

  20. I will be absolutely DEVASTATED if Bernie doesn't run again

  21. Alonzo has it nailed. This country is RIFE with "I wants" vs "I'm totally willing to contribute to this because it will help get me what I want." Americans, by and large are selfish and lack introspection, preferring oversimplified dogma vs nuanced conversation and real, progressive change. How do you know this is so? The fact that Trump is in office: his base preferred to ignore his DECADES of fraud and his history of lies, and preferred instead to take him at his word which was, again, historically something no one should ever do. Simple, stupid motherfuckers. And now they're tripping over themselves to defend him because they don't want any of the responsibility INSTEAD of joining the conversation about what it will take to fix the cavalcade of bullshit they've brought upon us all. Alonzo is right.

  22. Paying taxes or not wanting to pay taxes has to be correlated to wage levels. Walmart doesn't pay its workers enough for them to pay taxes, and they qualify for food stamps. We skewer the poor when we should skewer the corporations. The consequence of Bernie running for President is the multiple revelations that we do not have a democracy, we have a captured media, that the taxes we pay do not result in benefits to 95% of Americans other than the military industrial complex. Thanks for educating us, Bernie.

  23. The top 1 percent pay 39 percent of taxes. The top 10 percent pay 70 percent. So it's greedy to be rich and pay the most but not greedy to want to take from someone to help yourself…

  24. Been supporting Bernie a bit before he announced he was running for potus thanks to TYT covering him. I never saw him on the other news stations 🙁

  25. Please stop discounting seniors. Some of us have been progressives for many years. Go Bernie!!!

  26. The real question is do we think he will beat trumps reelection if he runs next term?

  27. Getting voted out might not make them pay for it though. Unless the tax cuts are reversed soon they and their donors will still benefit from the cuts.

  28. I disagree with Alonzo. I think the principles of socialism are a lot more popular in America than people think – provided you don't call it socialism.

  29. Don't listen to the nay sayers. If enough people wants change it will happen. History has shown this again and again. Remember when people said women will never get the vote, segregation will never end or the end of the Cold War will never happen in our lifetime.

  30. Trump also won because the media gave him free coverage, blacked out Bernie and Hillary and the DNC rigged the primaries against Bernie and voters because she thought she was the "chosen" one and "we the people" did not think so – Bernie made us aware that we, as individuals, are not alone and there is strength in numbers…

  31. Don't need to raise taxes – redistribute them back into those of us who are paying them

  32. Our tax dollars are overwhelmingly going into the military-industrial complex and then there is the CIA who pays Bazo's umpteen $ (aren't those our tax dollars too?), I know how about the corporations that are people too and yet they pollute our public waters with lead and oil…there's enough money to fix our country it just needs redistribution

  33. Feel the Ass Bern and a 70% tax rate 🙂

  34. Alonzo doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. The people spoke by voting against Hillary, more than voting for Trump. BTW, Bill Clinton was re-elected handedly after the largest tax increase in history.

  35. 'The Bernification Of America', we can't but hope!?

  36. Libertarians were thought to be all talk on legalizing marijuana, but their votes were essential to getting it passed in many of the states that legalized it.

  37. Bernie Sanders 2020-make America Denmark!!! =D lol

  38. Bernie Sanders is a socialist white supremacist!!!!!!!

  39. Even State colleges are a business look at the NCAA that makes a lot of money.

  40. America wasn't allowed to speak when they voted, we had the choice of which was the lesser evil. The lesser evil is not a choice and is not an opinion on who you would vote FOR.

  41. Its not even worth arguing with Alonzo his voice is too nice.
