The Wander Beauty Mile High Club Mascara Is SO Good You Won’t Have to Apply a Second Coat Review

There are two important things to know about me: One, my star sign is Taurus, which basically means I’m allergic to change. I’m all about my routines and I like to stick to the beauty products I know and trust. Two: I love mascara. I love mascara so much that you’ll find multiple tubes at my desk, in my purse, and on my vanity. I have approximately four mascaras in rotation at any given time and I won’t leave the house until my lashes are long and thick enough to cast shadows.

When I find a mascara that works for me, I stick to it. There’s a long screening process, and you probably have a better chance getting on Raya than a new formula does of making its way onto my short list of favorites. So when a sample tube of the Wander Beauty Mile High Club Volume and Length Mascara came across my desk for me to test, I was doubtful that it would meet my high standards.

It did have one thing going for it: Wander Beauty’s first mascara, Unlashed Volume & Curl, was good. Like really good. Like so good that we gave it an Allure Best of Beauty Award. I wanted to see if this second launch would be better, on a par, or fall short of the original.

Like Wander Beauty’s OG mascara, Mile High Club Volume and Length also comes in a squeezable tube. This nontraditional packaging prolongs the life of the formula, deposits the perfect amount of pigment on the wand, and allows you to use every last drop of mascara in the tube. A slight pinch of the tube deposits more of the formula on the bristles, resulting in a thicker application on your lashes.

The brush is shaped like a traditional straight mascara wand with tapered bristles at the tip. It’s the perfect size to really get into the roots of my lashes. In fact, when I finish applying it, I often look like I’ve tightlined the inner upper and lower rims of my eyes.

One coat of the ultra-black formula goes a long way. It’s not too wet or too dry and if my lashes get slightly clumpy, I comb through them again and the bristles push the clumps right out. I’m someone who likes to go to town with my mascara. I’ll layer multiple formulas — as many as three — for my desired length and volume. With Mile High Club Volume and Length, the formula had so much play time that I could coat each and every lash without dipping the wand back into the tube. And after just a single application my lashes looked so long and feathery that I didn’t apply a second mascara, which is a very rare occurrence.

When it comes to wearability, the formula doesn’t smudge or flake — even after a full day of work followed by a gym session. The first day I tested it I even had some contact lens issues and the mascara withstood a few real and artificial tears. It also stays nice and flexible throughout the day, thanks to ingredients like castor oil and trehalose that help to moisturize and condition your lashes.

If you’re going for drama with little-to-no effort then this mascara is a dream. Lift? Check. Volume? Definitely. Length? Oh, yeah, my lashes were practically touching my brow bone by the time I was done. And it forced this picky, mascara-loving Taurus to change it up for once.

You’ll find this mascara in our February 2019 Allure Beauty Box for just $10.
