a remarkably similar set of circumstances that resulted in the tragic airline crash in tehran just the other day, occurred not far away in 1988, thirty-two years ago. it involved ill will between the U.S. and iran, a live firefight, the downing of a commercial jet and an enormous civilian death toll. here is the story for those who don't remember, for those keeping score, or for those who just want to keep up…
"Iran Air Flight 655 was a scheduled passenger flight from Tehran to
Dubai via Bandar Abbas that was shot down on 3 July 1988 by an SM-2MR
surface-to-air missile fired from USS Vincennes, a guided-missile
cruiser of the United States Navy. The aircraft, an Airbus A300, was
destroyed and all 290 people on board were killed. The jet was hit while
flying over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, along the
flight's usual route, shortly after departing Bandar Abbas International
Airport, the flight's stopover location. Vincennes had entered Iranian
territory after one of its helicopters drew warning fire from Iranian
speedboats operating within Iranian territorial limits.".
"According to the United States government, the crew of USS Vincennes
had incorrectly identified the Airbus as an attacking F-14 Tomcat, a
U.S.-made jet fighter that had been part of the Iranian Air Force
inventory since the 1970s. While the F-14s had been supplied to Iran in
an air-to-air configuration, the crew of the guided missile cruiser had
been briefed that the Iranian F-14s were equipped with air-to-ground
ordnance. Vincennes had made ten attempts to contact the aircraft on
both military and civilian radio frequencies, but had received no
response. According to the Iranian government, the cruiser negligently
shot down the aircraft, which was transmitting IFF squawks in Mode III, a
signal that identified it as a civilian aircraft, and not Mode II as
used by Iranian military aircraft.".
Iran has grown bold from a distance by attacking the defenseless women and children. Something Allah tells us NOT to do! Any armed thug can pretend bravery while holding a gun on unarmed women and children, but the character of the individual speaks more loudly of their cowardice. You have the media and government saying we should go to war now, so many lives were lost, war, someone must be punish. Twice that many people have died in the 737max crashes. Boeing is responsible for killing more people in the last 18 months than the Iranians, twice as many. And by the way unlike with that Ukraine airliner, (9) of the people who died in the 737 max crashes were Americans. And yet the media is not saying something has to be done to Boeing. When are they going to get punish? They are not beating the drum for Boeing executives to get put on trial and put in handcuffs. Quite the opposite. What has been happening is Boeing has been allowed to quietly settle these legal claims out of court. Keep in mine Boeing gets huge tax breaks which basically amount to subsides and those subsides are finance by U.S. tax payers. That is how these big corporation's get these big tax breaks they are balance on the back of the working poor. So Boeing kills over 340 people and they get to go to court, not to prison. They go to civil court so they can negotiate what the payout is going to be, they're paying off the victims with your and my money. Whatever happen to we have to do something because so many lives were lost? Yeah if it is a bunch of Arabs or Iranians who you want to blame then yeah something has to be done. But what if it is some American Executive?
