You ready for flying taxis from Uber? | Engadget Today

I’m about that Jetsons life.

At a speech at the Web Summit in Lisbon, Uber’s head of product Jeff Holden revealed the company has signed a Space Act Agreement with NASA to create the air traffic control system that will manage its low-flying taxi fleet, which it aims to have in the air by 2020. The company also announced that a third test city, Los Angeles, has been added to the program, joining Dallas-Fort Worth and Dubai. According to Uber, its UberAIR service could compress a one and a half hour journey from LAX to the Staples Center during rush hour to under 30 minutes.

  1. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will shut this down for noise violation.
    Helicopters are loud.

Uber would be wise to stop wasting money on this doomed endeavor.

  2. What an utter load of garbage! Even if they could develop a reliable 'flying Uber' and somehow convince the FAA to have them flying around indiscriminately without flight plans, where is it going to land to pick you up, in the street? What about power lines, trees, birds, noise, pedestrians, traffic…. Oh, not to mention PILOTS!? The list goes on.
    Absolute nonsense and utterly unrealistic….

  3. Yes…just like in the early years of passenger aircraft when "most' said that they'd never go up in one of those things. It (flying cars) is going to happen..with or without the naysayers. Market forces always seem to be the determining factor..and with flying cars this is most likely to happen much sooner than later.

  4. This will be the final end of Uber!Yippee!

  5. Uber can’t even make a profit on shitty taxis, (lost 4billion last year alone) they have no chance making this work

  7. We won't be drivers but pilots 😌

  8. I wonder what it will be like when a bunch of pissed up townies get on one for a laugh 😨

  9. if i want a horrific way to die then yeah il requests uber air, but right now i’m enjoying life😂

  10. From my reading it says that this service is heading for a deadline by the 2028 Olympics? 2020? They said they want to be testing them by 2020?, Either way its the way forward. Great concept. Least NASA are spending tax payers money on something important & not just on the fake space race..

  11. We really are beginning to live in a SciFi fantasy you could once only see in movies

  12. I think we have to wait 383838373 years lol

Uber is illegal, how can you fly these things without being noticed?😂

  13. This seems like that amazon drone delivery announcement forever ago. No working product, just a hyped up cgi presentation and a dream to drum up hype

  14. finna be 9/11 all over again
